WEBVTT

00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:01.000

00:00:01.000 --> 00:00:08.000
Of course, we can't launch without good weather! Delta Weather Officer Joel Tumbiolo is here with us today to tell us what's in store. Welcome, Joel.

00:00:08.000 --> 00:00:09.000
Thank you, Bruce. Glad to be here.

00:00:09.000 --> 00:00:15.000
Summertime weather patterns are in full swing right now across Florida, and what kind of weather problems do you have to watch out for this time of year?

00:00:15.000 --> 00:00:21.000
Well, as you mentioned, during the summer months -- June, July, August -- that is our peak thunderstorm time of the year.

00:00:21.000 --> 00:00:25.000
So every afternoon, Florida is notorious for having thunderstorms in the area.

00:00:25.000 --> 00:00:29.000
It's just a matter of where they form and what direction they move once they form.

00:00:29.000 --> 00:00:34.000
So we'll be monitoring any thunderstorms and, again, the main thing from those thunderstorms is lightning.

00:00:34.000 --> 00:00:37.000
We do follow the lightning and also the winds from the thunderstorms.

00:00:37.000 --> 00:00:41.000
Okay, thanks. Well, since we're launching this afternoon, how does the forecast look for today?

00:00:41.000 --> 00:00:47.000
Well, relatively speaking, for, again, for an afternoon and evening launch in the middle of August, we're looking pretty good.

00:00:47.000 --> 00:00:51.000
We will have thunderstorms forming in the early afternoon, mainly to our west,

00:00:51.000 --> 00:00:57.000
and they will slowly work their way towards the central part of, interior parts of Florida as the afternoon wears on.

00:00:57.000 --> 00:00:59.000
So, we are expecting thunderstorms to our west.

00:00:59.000 --> 00:01:05.000
We will be monitoring any anvil clouds from those thunderstorms, because they can not be within 10 miles of the launch site,

00:01:05.000 --> 00:01:09.000
and we'll also be monitoring the ground-level winds at the time liftoff is expected.

00:01:09.000 --> 00:01:13.000
But we are expecting a 70 percent chance of having good weather for the launch this evening.

00:01:13.000 --> 00:01:17.000
Okay, well, 70 percent is good, so...Joel, thanks for joining us.

00:01:17.000 --> 00:01:19.000
Thank you.

00:01:19.000 --> 00:01:24.000
