00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:06.000
MS. STILSON: Adrian from Manchester asks do the astronauts' feel a temperature increase during re-entry due to the massive

00:00:06.000 --> 00:00:10.000
temperature increase outside the spacecraft.

00:00:10.000 --> 00:00:16.000
MS. HIRE: Actually inside of the Space Shuttle, during entry, we do not actually feel that temperature increase.

00:00:16.000 --> 00:00:22.000
And the reason is, for entry, just like ascent, we're wearing a pressure suit. And inside, underneath this suit,

00:00:22.000 --> 00:00:29.000
actually, we wear a garment that has little plastic tubes and we run water through these tubes.

00:00:29.000 --> 00:00:35.000
And we can adjust the flow of this water. It's cool water. and it helps keep us cool and keeps our temperature regulated.

00:00:35.000 --> 00:00:40.000
So the temperature outside of that, we're not really able to sense that.

00:00:40.000 --> 00:00:42.000
MS. STILSON: Probably a good thing, right? MS. HIRE: It probably is, yes.

00:00:42.000 --> 00:00:43.000
