00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:11.000
You're watching NASA Direct.

00:00:11.000 --> 00:00:14.000
Now on the NASA Space Shuttle Status Report.

00:00:14.000 --> 00:00:20.000
It takes two. An important, second test on Space Shuttle Discovery's External Tank.

00:00:20.000 --> 00:00:26.000
Then, ET-121 attaches to its Solid Rocket Boosters and prepares to fly with Discovery.

00:00:26.000 --> 00:00:31.000
Plus, a date for Discovery to roll back and Atlantis processing picks up the pace.

00:00:31.000 --> 00:00:35.000
The NASA Space Shuttle Status Report starts right now!

00:00:35.000 --> 00:00:47.000
Music.

00:00:47.000 --> 00:00:55.000
I'm Ted Mosteller, NASA test director at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, and this is the NASA Space Shuttle Status Report.

00:00:55.000 --> 00:01:02.000
Space Shuttle Discovery and orbiter Atlantis are making Return to Flight progress.

00:01:02.000 --> 00:01:10.000
On May 20 at the Kennedy Space Center, a second test was successfully completed on Space Shuttle Discovery's External Tank.

00:01:10.000 --> 00:01:19.000
Engineers and technicians added instrumentation to the tank to troubleshoot two issues that came up during the April 14 tanking test.

00:01:19.000 --> 00:01:25.000
The instrumentation will provide data to analyze the liquid hydrogen sensors that gave intermittent readings

00:01:25.000 --> 00:01:31.000
and the liquid hydrogen pressurization relief valve that cycled more times than is standard during the last test.

00:01:31.000 --> 00:01:39.000
Propellants were loaded into the tank, then an ice and debris team checked the tank's thermal protective coating for frost and ice build up.

00:01:39.000 --> 00:01:43.000
The propellants were unloaded and the test was complete that afternoon.

00:01:43.000 --> 00:01:49.000
With the test behind them, workers are now preparing to roll Discovery back to the Vehicle Assembly Building.

00:01:49.000 --> 00:01:55.000
Meanwhile, inside the VAB, External Tank 121 was attached to its Solid Rocket Boosters.

00:01:55.000 --> 00:02:06.000
ET-121 and its SRBs were scheduled to fly with Space Shuttle Atlantis, but will now become Discovery's flight stack when it rolls back to the VAB.

00:02:06.000 --> 00:02:14.000
In the coming days, a new heater will be installed on the tank's feedline bellows to minimize the potential for ice and frost buildup.

00:02:14.000 --> 00:02:20.000
Atlantis will most likely fly with ET-119, scheduled to arrive at KSC next month.

00:02:20.000 --> 00:02:28.000
As workers anticipate the arrival of Atlantis' tank, processing on the orbiter continues inside the OPF.

00:02:28.000 --> 00:02:36.000
Workers there are preparing for Atlantis' upcoming launch, designated STS-121 to the International Space Station this September.

00:02:36.000 --> 00:02:40.000
Atlantis' payload doors were open for testing recently.

00:02:40.000 --> 00:02:46.000
A sub-zero freezer rack was loaded inside a logistic module known as Leonardo.

00:02:46.000 --> 00:02:53.000
The Minus Eighty Degree Laboratory Freezer for the ISS, or MELFI, will fly on STS-121

00:02:53.000 --> 00:02:58.000
and will provide cold storage for science samples going to and from the space station.

00:02:58.000 --> 00:03:05.000
The launch window for Space Shuttle Atlantis begins September 9th and ends September 24th.

00:03:05.000 --> 00:03:12.000
That's all the time we have for this week's Space Shuttle Status Report. Remember, July 13 to July 31, 2005,

00:03:12.000 --> 00:03:21.000
is NASA's new window for Space Shuttle Discovery’s Return to Flight mission, designated STS-114 to the International Space Station.

00:03:21.000 --> 00:03:27.000
Until next time, log on to nasa.gov for the latest in Return to Flight and NASA mission news.

00:03:27.000 --> 00:03:45.000
I'm Ted Mosteller for the NASA Space Shuttle Status Report.

00:03:45.000 --> 00:03:51.000
Music.
