NAIL: Gentlemen, we have more questions from our viewers, so let's get started.

00:00:05.000 --> 00:00:13.000
Our first question for Dr. Stevens is Nigel from Manchester: How did the idea of launching micro-satellites come about?

00:00:13.000 --> 00:00:21.000
STEVENS: Well, the idea for, for micro-satellites really came from the NASA road-mapping or science planning for the future,

00:00:21.000 --> 00:00:27.000
where it was identified that, that many science investigations would benefit significantly from having multiple

00:00:27.000 --> 00:00:35.000
satellites up at the same time to make measurements in the, from different places.

00:00:35.000 --> 00:00:41.000
In order to have a cost-effective way to do those missions, the satellites had to be small,

00:00:41.000 --> 00:00:46.000
because they could then be launched on a single launch vehicle, thereby reducing the launch cost.

00:00:46.000 --> 00:00:56.000
So, as a consequence, this was the focus for the ST5 requirements from NASA.

00:00:56.000 --> 00:00:56.000
