You're watching NASA Direct.

00:00:11.000 --> 00:00:14.000
Next on the NASA Space Shuttle Status Report:

00:00:14.000 --> 00:00:20.000
NASA stacked, wrapped and gapped hardware this week for all three space shuttles!

00:00:20.000 --> 00:00:25.000
You are about to see what's happening in space shuttle processing at Kennedy Space Center in Florida!

00:00:25.000 --> 00:00:29.000
The NASA Space Shuttle Status Report starts right now.

00:00:29.000 --> 00:00:40.000
Music.

00:00:40.000 --> 00:00:45.000
I'm Bob Holl, NASA test director, and this is the NASA Space Shuttle Status Report.

00:00:45.000 --> 00:00:48.000
First up in this week's shuttle news:

00:00:48.000 --> 00:00:56.000
Orbiter Discovery, its solid rocket boosters and its engines prepare for mission STS-121 to the International Space Station.

00:00:56.000 --> 00:00:59.000
It's all happening right now at Kennedy Space Center.

00:00:59.000 --> 00:01:03.000
Inside the Vehicle Assembly Building, solid rocket booster stacking continues.

00:01:03.000 --> 00:01:07.000
The right forward center portion of the stack is now in place.

00:01:07.000 --> 00:01:14.000
The twin white solid rocket boosters are filled with propellant and provide the thrust Discovery needs to soar into space.

00:01:14.000 --> 00:01:23.000
In other Discovery news, an Oxygen Generating System was delivered to KSC from Marshall Space Flight Center for mission STS-121.

00:01:23.000 --> 00:01:27.000
The system will produce breathing air for the space station crew.

00:01:27.000 --> 00:01:31.000
And inside the Space Station Processing Facility, also at Kennedy:

00:01:31.000 --> 00:01:37.000
Discovery's payload, named Leonardo, is now equipped with the necessary racks to hold the food,

00:01:37.000 --> 00:01:41.000
clothing and spare parts that Discovery will carry into space.

00:01:41.000 --> 00:01:48.000
Back inside the Orbiter Processing Facility, work is nearing completion on the gap fillers in the "priority one" area on Discovery's underside.

00:01:48.000 --> 00:01:56.000
When this is complete, the gap filler team will move to bay one to work on orbiter Atlantis.

00:01:56.000 --> 00:02:02.000
Speaking of Atlantis, more than 400 gap fillers are now replaced beneath the orbiter in Orbiter Processing Facility bay one.

00:02:02.000 --> 00:02:14.000
New gap filler application techniques were developed to ensure that they stay in place during the orbiter's re-entry into Earth's atmosphere.

00:02:14.000 --> 00:02:22.000
Thermal protection system blanket installation in the nose cap is under way on orbiter Endeavour in Orbiter Processing Facility bay 2.

00:02:22.000 --> 00:02:26.000
The blankets are made of layered pure silica and are hand sewn with silica thread.

00:02:26.000 --> 00:02:32.000
These blankets protect the orbiter against temperatures up to about two-thousand degrees.

00:02:32.000 --> 00:02:35.000
That's all the time we have for this week's Space Shuttle Status Report --

00:02:35.000 --> 00:02:40.000
your inside look at NASA's three space shuttles as they prepare for flight!

00:02:40.000 --> 00:02:45.000
Until our next report, stay with NASA TV and nasa.gov for the latest in mission news.

00:02:45.000 --> 00:03:07.000
For the NASA Space Shuttle Status Report, I'm Bob Holl.

00:03:07.000 --> 00:03:12.000
